The number of researchers among medical doctors has declined. How to recruit researchers has become a problem internationally. It is an obvious risk that a strained financial situation will result in fewer resources to education and research. There is a lack of understanding of how to break this negative trend. Knowledge about what is promoting and what is hindering students to clinical research and education is lacking. This pilot study investigates issues related to research among one group of younger medical doctors taking a university course in research methodology and another group taking a professional development course in basic scientific education.
