School nurse’s experiences of working during a pandemic : How Covid-19 affected the daily work in primary school (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic. Covid-19 is an acute respiratory infection that can lead to life-threatening conditions. The Swedish Public Health Agency has highlighted the importance of a functioning student health in schools, where the health promotion and prevention work must focus on students' well-being and school absence during the pandemic. Purpose: To describe school nurses' experiences of how the Covid-19 pandemic affected their daily work in primary school. Method: The study used a qualitative method where ten interviews were conducted and analyzed with descriptive meaning analysis. Result: From this analysis the theme of Adaptations and Changes emerged, which will be described through eight meaning elements; Approaches to information and communication from management, Adaptations in the physical work environment, Planning and prioritization, Increased use of digital tools, Changes in students 'school absence, School nurses' sense of responsibility, Enhanced role as a safe adult, School nurses' perceived feelings in their daily work. Conclusion: Adaptations and changes in school nurses' daily work in primary school have been introduced based on Covid-19 restrictions and general advice. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the independent work of school nurses has been clarified to an even greater extent through how they have changed and adapted their daily work.
