Sprint planning is a phase during product development in which the development team works together to plan and prioritize the work that is meant to be done in the next Sprint (Shwaber & Sutherland, 2020). This phase is important because it clarifies what is meant to be done during the next Sprint. By having a well-executed Sprint planning phase, the development team knows exactly what should be done first. Indie game development is a creative and a non-mainstream way for the developers to express themselves (Freeman, et al., 2020). Indie games themselves are usually smaller games that have fewer goals during development that also creates less workload on the development team (Freeman & McNeese, 2019). Usually, an indie game is also createdmainly from scratch meaning that they are more original than mainstream games. Instead of reusing existing resources and assets the developers usually create the assets by themselves (Freeman & McNeese, 2019).Game quality is difficult to define as generally the goal of the game is the enjoyment of the user, meaning that the goal is to be “fun”. It is difficult to specify what “fun” is since it all depends on the preferences of the users which are also often prone to changes (Liu, et al., 2019). In this research instead of trying to define what “fun” is the game quality will instead be measured through three dimensions: stability, functionality and playability. In this research the product that will be focused on are indie games. The research will investigate what kind of effect does Sprint planning have on game quality in the context of indie game projects. The thesis will start by explaining what the researcher means by Game Quality and what Sprint planning and indie game development projects are. Next, the question will be presented together with the main articles used. Afterwards the document will move onto the methods used during the research. After the method, the results from the data collection will be presented followed by an analysis of the data. The document will be finished by presenting the results and a discussion at the very end. In the discussion the researcher will reflect upon his research and discuss what could have been done better or different.
