Older people's perceptions of e-health services (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Introduction: Public health work is facing a contemporary challenge. At the same time as older people are increasing and society is being digitized, the risk of older people ending up in digital exclusion increases. The consequences of exclusion can, among other things, result in lack of care, poorer quality of life and social isolation. Therefore, it is relevant to examine how older people experience e-health services. Aim: The aim of this literature study was to examine perceptions of e-health services among people over 65 years. Methods: The study was conducted as a structured literature study with elements of the methodology from systematic reviews and resulted in 22 scientific articles that were analyzed through a qualitative thematic content analysis. Results: Four themes and 19 categories emerged in the results. Among other things, e-health services could increase independence and simplify access to care, but also create dependence and reduce physical contact. Simple design and necessary knowledge were perceived as promoting the use of the e-health services, while unclear instructions and lack of interest constituted an obstacle to the use. Conclusion: The use of e-health services can both support and disadvantage older people. The experiences of the elderly in this study are considered important for the continued development of public health work, to reduce the digital divide and to ensure that everyone has access to equal care.
