Abstract [en]

Caring for the sick person at home can be stressful for the loved one as they often struggle between a balance of stability and change. Aim: To describe relatives' experience of support from health care professionals in end-of-life care at home or in hospice. Method: Literature review articles with a qualitative approach. Results: From the analysis two themes were identified; Alone but not alone and Get sufficient assistance with six subthemes. Discussion: Relatives who care for a relative may experience a mental and physical struggle in care, especially during the last moments of the patient's life. The close relative has a tendency to take on a great deal of responsibility and that they avoid asking for help from healthcare staff, which can lead to unnecessary suffering for the close relative. The nurse has a responsibility to provide support to relatives and that it is adapted to each individual. Conclusion: The results showed that relatives' experiences of support in end-of-life care are aimed at communication, information and participation.
