Virtual Commissioning is a new technology that is becoming more and more popular nowadays with the evolution of the industry, which is known as Industry 4.0. Thanks to this technology, automation devices can be tested, debugged, and validated just by using a computer. For that purpose, virtual models of real automated systems are used. These systems are called digital twins and are created to behave as their respective physical systems. That is why these systems are expected to be as similar as possible to the real ones.
HIFA AB is a company that decided to create digital twins of their educational labs. Therefore, it is important to first learn about these new technologies and get as much information as possible. In order to develop the systems, carrying out a market analysis to select the best options for modelling the system is really helpful. After the creation of the digital twins, a validation of their functioning is necessary to confirm that both systems behave in the same way. Besides, one of the objectives of this thesis is to prove how beneficial having a virtual system as a complement of its respective real one.
