Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Yrsel kan härstamma från olika bakomliggande orsaker och är mer vanligt förekommande hos äldre. Sjuksköterskans ansvar för personcentrerad vård spelar en viktig roll i bemötandet av patienterna. Patienterna livssammanhang och miljö är viktiga aspekter för att uppnå ökad förståelse för patienternas sänkta livskvalitet. Syfte: Studiens syfte var att belysa hur äldres livskvalitet påverkas av att leva med yrsel i vardagen.  Metod: Studien är en litteraturöversikt. Vetenskapliga artiklar med fokus på äldres upplevda erfarenheter har granskats. Resultat: Äldre patienter med yrsel upplever rädsla för att falla och framtiden. De beskriver önskan och strategier för att klara av sin vardag samt önskan om att få stöd. De tar upp begränsningar i vardagen och i det sociala livet. Konklusion: Yrsel försämrar äldres livskvalitet i vardagen. Patienterna med yrsel har svårt att uttrycka sina besvär och sjuksköterskor att finna åtgärder. Patienterna skapar egna strategier eftersom yrsel oftast inte tas på allvar. Strategierna kan ibland orsaka fysiska skador. Slutligen kan det leda till att patienterna blir isolerade i sina hem. Rädslan som uppstår kring vardagen ger ångest och depression.

Abstract [en]

Background: Dizziness can be derived from various underlying causes and is more common in the elderly. Nurses responsibility for person-centered care plays an important role in the treatment of the patient. The patient's life context and environment are important aspects for achieving greater understanding of the patient's reduced Quality of Life. Aim: The aim of this study was to illustrate how dizziness impairs Quality of Life in elderly´s everyday life. Method: This study is a literature review. Scientific articles focusing on elderly patients’ experiences have been examined. Result: Elderly patients with dizziness experience the fear of falling and the future. They describe the desire and strategies to cope with their everyday lifes as well as the desire for support. They describe limitations in everyday life and in social life. Conclusion: Dizziness has a negative impact on the Quality of Life of the elderly’s everyday life. The patients with dizziness have difficulty expressing their problems and nurses to find action. Patients create their own strategies because dizziness is usually not taken seriously. Strategies can cause physical damage. Finally, patients can be isolated in their homes. The fear that arises around everyday life causes anxiety and depression.
