Bakgrund: Bröstcancer är den vanligaste cancerformen som drabbar kvinnor. Omkring 20 kvinnor drabbas varje dag i Sverige och det ställs omkring 9000 bröstcancerdiagnoser per år. Att drabbas av bröstcancer är en upplevelse som innebär mycket sårbarhet och djup förtvivlan.  Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med bröstcancer. Metod: Litteraturbaserad studie med 11 kvalitativa artiklar. Resultat: I resultatet framkom tre huvudkategorier; upplevelser från en ny livssituation, upplevelser av stöd och perspektiv på livet. Det framkom även åtta underkategorier. Diskussion: Kvinnorna upplevde att bröstcancer förändrade hela livet. De mötte flera svårigheter och flera känslor som var svåra att hantera. Många existentiella frågor dök upp och det fanns ett behov av att bli sedda och hörda. Kvinnorna önskade att stödet från sjukvården hade varit anpassad utifrån deras individuella behov. När patienterna accepterade att leva med sin bröstcancer blev det lättare för dem att återgå till sin tidigare vardag. Konklusion: Vårdpersonalen har en stor påverkan på hur patienterna upplever att leva med bröstcancer utifrån vilken vård som de får. När sjukvården lättare kan identifiera patienternas behov så blir det enklare att ge vård efter deras behov.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer that affects women. Around 20 women are affected each day and approximately 9000 are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Breast cancer is an experience that involves a lot of vulnerability and deep despair. Purpose: The purpose with this study was to describe women´s experiences of living with breast cancer.Method: Literature based study with 11 qualitative articles. Results: The results showed three main categories; experiences from a new life situation, experiences of support and perspective on life. There were also eight subcategories. Discussion: The women felt that breast cancer changed their whole life. They faced several difficulties and several emotions that were difficult to handle. Many existential issues appeared and there was a need to be seen and heard.  The women wished that the support from the health care had been adapted based on their individual needs. When the patients accepted their diagnose of breast cancer, it became easier to live with it and they could return to their previous daily lives. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals have a major influence on how patients experience living with breast cancer based on the care they receive.In order to give the patients the desired care there must first be an improvement in the communication between the patient and the health care professionals.
