Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Suicidförsök bland ungdomar ökar kraftigt. Skolsköterskor behöver använda sig av kommunikationsfärdigheter som återspeglar medkänsla genom att bygga förtroendefulla relationer, se och möta eleven i dennes livsvärld och inge hopp.

 

Syfte: Att beskriva skolsköterskors upplevelser av att möta och upptäcka elever med suicidtankar.

 

Metod: Studien bygger på en kvalitativ innebördsanalys där åtta skolsköterskor genom mejlkontakt skrivit berättelser om sina upplevelser för att besvara syftet.  

 

Resultat: Skolsköterskornas upplevelse av att upptäcka elever med suicidtankar är att ha kunskap om de olika symtom som kan uppvisas av eleven. Skolsköterskornas upplevelser av dessa symtom var: destruktiva beteenden, depressiva symtom, psykosomatiska symtom och problematiska hemsituationer. I mötet med elever som har suicidtankar påtalar skolsköterskorna vikten av att våga fråga om suicidtankar, finnas kvar, lyssna och inge hopp.

 

Slutsats: Skolsköterskor upplever många riskfaktorer som leder till att de bättre kan upptäcka och möta elever med suicidtankar. Att identifiera de riskfaktorer är en stor del av skolsköterskors arbete. Studiens resultat ger en ökad kunskap och mer erfarenhet för professionella vårdgivare att möta elever med suicidtankar.

Abstract [en]

Background: Suicide attempts among adolescents is increasing rapidly. School nurses need to use communication skills that reflect compassion by creating trusting relationships, see and meet the student in their life-world and give hope.

 

Purpose: To describe the school nurses' experiences of encountering and discovering students with suicidal thoughts.

 

Method: The study is based on a qualitative meaning analysis where eight school nurses by email wrote stories about their experiences to answer the purpose.

 

Results: School nurses experiences of discovering students with suicidal thoughts is to have knowledge about the different symptoms that can be displayed by the student. The school nurses experiences of these symptoms where: Destructive behaviours, depressive symptoms, psychosomatic symptoms and problematic home situations. In the meeting with students who have suicidal thoughts, school nurses emphasize the importance of asking about suicidal thoughts, remain, listen and give hope.

 

Conclusion: School nurses experience many risk factors that leads to that they can better detect and meet students with suicidal thoughts. To identify those risk factors are a big part of the school nurses work. This study results provide a greater knowledge and more experience for health professionals to encounter students with suicidal thoughts.
