Business intelligence [BI] has evolved over the years and become a more and more important field. For companies to stay competitive, business intelligence data have to be moved onto the cloud. However, there have been many concerns about the security of business intelligence data in the cloud since the risks are higher than in traditional business intelligence environments. Therefore, many organizations implement information security measures to protect themselves from security threats. In a cloud environment, information about what providers of cloud services do in terms of security often is unclear, hence consumers need to trust those providers with their security.

This study aims to look at how the security of the provider is perceived as well as what kind of measures consumers of these solutions implement for information security.

This has been accomplished through a case study based on three interviews with employees of two different Cloud BI consumer companies in order to achieve insights into how the security of both the provider and the consumer are perceived by the consumer.

The results of this study demonstrate important factors involved in the security of cloud providers, as well as important security measures used by cloud consumers.
