Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Många tonåringar lider av sömnbrist på grund av sen eller nattlig användning av smartphones, vilket kan påverka deras hälsa och skolprestationer. Skolsköterskans uppdrag är att arbeta hälsofrämjande. I mötet med tonåringar har skolsköterskan möjlighet att uppmärksamma sömn- och smartphonevanor.

Syfte: Att belysa skolsköterskors erfarenheter av och arbete med tonåringars sömn i relation till användning av smartphones.

Metod: En kvalitativ metod med induktiv ansats användes. Ett strategiskt urval gjordes. Inklusionskriterier var skolsköterskor med minst 1 års erfarenhet som arbetar med tonåringar. Nio skolsköterskor intervjuades via e-post och datamaterialet analyserades med hjälp av kvalitativ innehållsanalys.

Resultat: Analysen resulterade i tre huvudkategorier : Hur smartphones påverkar tonåringars sömn, Att uppmärksamma, informera och motivera, Hälsofrämjande samarbete, och sju underkategorier: Att ha mobilen vid sängen, Konsekvenser i vardagen, Att inhämta kunskap om tonåringars smartphoneanvändning och sömn, Att informera, Att motivera, Samarbete med vårdnadshavare och Samarbete med övrig personal.

Konklusion: Skolsköterskors hälsofrämjande arbete gällande sömn i relation till smartphones är beroende av varje enskild skolsköterskas kunskap, engagemang och intresse. Nationella riktlinjer för skolsköterskors arbete med sömn och smartphones samt en omarbetning av hälsoenkäten som används vid hälsosamtalet efterfrågas av skolsköterskorna.

Abstract [en]

Background: Many teenagers suffer from sleep deprivation due to late or nightly use of smartphones, affecting health and academic performance. The school nurse should work for health promotion and has, when meeting teenagers, the opportunity to address sleep and smartphone habits.

Purpose: To highlight the school nurses´experiences and work with teenagers' sleep in relation to the use of smartphones.

Method: A qualitative method with an inductive approach was used. A strategic selection was made. Inclusion criteria were school nurses working with teenagers. Nine school nurses were interviewed by email. The data was analyzed using a qualitative content analysis.

Results: The analysis resulted in the main categories: How smartphones affect teenagers' sleep, Attention, inform and motivate, and Health promotion cooperation. Subcategories: Having the phone at bed, Consequences of everyday life, Retrieving knowledge about teenagers' smartphone usage and sleep, Informing, Motivating, Collaboration with guardians, and Collaboration with other staff.

Conclusion: School nurses' health promotion work regarding sleep related to smartphones, depends on every individual school nurse’s knowledge, commitment and interest. National guidelines for school nurses' work with sleep and smartphones, and an update of the health survey used in the health interview is requested by the school nurses
