Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Ungdomar använder sociala medier för att umgås med varandra. Det finns ett samband mellan att spendera mycket tid på sociala medier och negativ påverkan på den psykiska hälsan. Skolsköterskan arbetar hälsofrämjande och förebyggande för att elever ska uppleva hälsa och nå kunskapsmålen i skolan. Syfte: Att belysa skolsköterskors erfarenheter av sociala mediers påverkan på den psykiska hälsan hos ungdomar i högstadiet. Metod: Data insamlades genom intervjuer av skolsköterskor med erfarenheter av ungdomar i högstadiet. Datamaterialet analyserades enligt kvalitativ innehållsanalys med induktiv ansats. Resultatet bestod av tio skolsköterskeintervjuer. Resultat: Intervjuerna mynnar ut i fyra huvudkategorier: kunskapsbrist hos skolsköterskor, positiva effekter av sociala medier, negativa effekter av sociala medier samt skolsköterskans förebyggande arbete kring sociala medier. Temat som framkom i studien var komplext arbete i ständigt pågående utveckling. Konklusion: Studiens resultat visar att användningen av sociala medier kan ha både positiva och negativa effekter för den psykiska hälsan hos ungdomar. Skolsköterskan har en stor utmaning att kunna arbeta hälsofrämjande kring sociala mediers påverkan på den psykiska hälsan på individ- och gruppnivå. Teamarbete behövs för att hjälpa ungdomarna att upprätthålla hälsosamma levnadsvanor och minska sociala mediers negativa effekt på den psykiska hälsan.

Abstract [en]

Background: Young people use social media to socialize with each other. There is a link between spending a lot of time on social media and the negative impact on mental health. The school nurses´work with health promotion and prevention to help students experience health and achieve goals of knowledge in school. Aim: Illustrate school nurses´experiences of the impact of social media on the mental health of young people in upper secondary school. Method: Data were collected through ten interviews of school nurses´ with experiences of young people in upper secondary school. The data material was analyzed according to qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Results: The interviews result in four main categories: lack of knowledge among school nurses´, positive effects of social media, negative effects of social media and the school nurses´preventive work with social media. The theme that emerged in the study was complex work in constant development. Conclusion: The results show that social media can have both positive and negative effects on the mental health of young people. The school nurses´ have a huge challenge to be able to promote health around the impact of social media on mental health in individual and group levels. Teamwork is needed to help young people maintain healthy lifestyles and reduce the negative effects of social media on mental health.
